Accelerated Technology Extends Help to Smartphone Developers by Offering XRAY Debugger Support for Symbian OS
MOBILE, Ala.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Oct. 13, 2003—
Accelerated Technology(R), the Embedded Systems
Division of Mentor Graphics Corporation, today addressed the complex
needs of the cellular market by announcing a new version of the
XRAY(R) debugger for Symbian OS(TM), an embedded operating system
(OS). Embedded developers of mobile phone applications will have the
most complete target-debugging environment available today for Symbian
OS.
Symbian develops and licenses Symbian OS(TM), the global
industry-standard operating system for advanced mobile phones, to the
world's leading handset manufacturers, which account for more than 80
percent of worldwide annual mobile phone sales.
As the mobile communications market steadily grows, developers
need a reliable tool that can debug the complexities of their cellular
phone applications. For Symbian OS developers, the XRAY debugger
support means that they will have visibility into the operation of
Symbian OS throughout the entire software design cycle.
"This new version of our XRAY product, supporting Symbian OS,
shows our further commitment to supporting the needs of mobile phone
manufacturers. The complex nature of advanced mobile phones, or
'smartphones,' requires a debugging solution like the XRAY debugger
that can offer clear visibility into these designs," said Robert Day,
director of marketing, Mentor Graphics Embedded Systems Division.
Advanced XRAY features for Symbian OS include calling up
thread-specific stack and register information easily, kernel object
inspection and modification capabilities, support for concept of
processes and threads within processes, and accurate debugging of
specific processes by accessing the memory management unit (MMU).
"With the XRAY debugger for Symbian OS, developers can inspect the
detailed inner-workings of their code and of the operating system,
thereby presenting an ideal development environment for tracking
software defects and optimizing software performance," said Jerry
Panagrossi, vice president of US Operations, Symbian. "The XRAY
debugger is one of those must-have tools in an embedded software
developer's tool suite."
Pricing and Availability
